Yacuma Amazon Rainforest Tours and Expeditions: Activities
Local guides give expert interpretation as ecotourists traverse the varied forest habitats of the Yacuma Forest Reserve. There are over 10 Km of trails to choose from, where
visitors will learn about medicinal, fruit and exotic plants. Hikes can be done during the day.
Over 340 bird species live in the vicinity of Yacuma Reserve. Expert local guides easily identify their songs and calls.
Ecotourists with luck may have a glimpse of some of the wildlife that inhabits the area, such as monkeys, capybaras, wild pigs, to name a few. However its important to know,
that it is a quite difficult task to observe this extraordinary wildlife due to the simple fact that in the jungle there is a struggle for life so everybody is hiding to survive.
- Canoe trips, Kayaking and fishing
Ecotourists can enjoy canoe trips or use our kayaks to navigate on the natural lagoons existing in the area. There are plenty of opportunities for fishing.
After a day of hiking we can have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the Chontayacu River, Sumino River or Napo River. Or simply relax in a hammock while listening
to the sounds of the forest.
Yes, why not to try gold panning on Napo River as the local Indigenous do. We will take you to certain areas on the river shores where you can try your luck and get some grams
of gold!
- Ecuador Jungle Tours and Expeditions:
We also offer jungle tours and Expeditions in more remote areas, hotel accommodations, Galapagos Tours & Ecuador Cultural and Adventure Tours.

Yacuma Ecolodge ended 2011 proudly: again it was recognized once more and certified by Rainforest Alliance and Smart Voyager as one of the few ecolodges in Ecuador developing great efforts and work for the conservation of the Yacuma Protected Rainforest Reserve and its support to the local Indigenous community off Chontayacu .
Some of the varied projects that Yacuma Ecolodge has worked in the past weeks include
- With the help of 2 prominent Ecuadorean Doctors (Dr. Zita Proano and Dr. Ivan Canadas)
Yacuma Lodge is periodically providing, totally free of cost, medical assistance to the families of the Chontayacu Community. These actions have greatly improved the health conditions of the kids and adults of the community. Thank you Zita and Ivan for your great cooperation, we truly appreciate it!
- Last October, Yacuma Ecolodge, in collaboration with the local Chontayacu community,
succesfully repainted, and repaired furniture of the local "Yacuma" community school, leaving The school ready for the new school year.
- On December 24, Yacuma Lodge provided the school with new bagpacks and school vests for
the students. Simultaneusly our doctors accomplished a medical check to the kids and adults of the community. All this was provided in a very special ceremony organized by community parents who at the end of the program offered to the doctors and representatives of Yacuma Ecolodge a very nice typical lunch of the region consisting of broiled palmito and steamed fish. A great meal!
- In October 2011 and with the collaboration of Patricio Garcia, a well known Ecuadorian guide
Yacuma organized a Jungle Guides 3rd Course which was attended by participants of the Chontayacu Community.
- Yacuma acquired 4 brand new kayaks manufactured in Guayaquil, Ecuador. These are ready for
use on the beautiful lagoons of the area.
- In July 2011 the nature severely hit communities in the area. Napo River flood caused damages
to the growing areas of the communities. Yacuma was there to support and provide shelter and medical assistance to the population.

Yacuma Ecolodge was in 2011 one of winners of SustainableTrip.org's Making the Difference Award! Each month, the SustainableTrip.org editors carefully select one tourism business that is making outstanding efforts to conserve natural resources and improve livelihoods in local communities. Yacuma Ecolodge stood out in 2011 for its work with the Chontayacu Rainforest Community, particularly our involvement with the Chontayacu Indigenous Community School. Yacuma Ecolodge was featured on www.sustainabletrip.org in Making a Difference Box. We are also found on the ST.org Facebook page.
We are happy to be compromised even more with the local community and the conservation of our beautiful rainforest!
